Art Collection: Favorite Fashion & Figurative Prints

My hands-down favorite part of my bedroom is the gallery wall over my dresser. I pieced it together over the years with everything from notecards to antique artwork to framed fabric swatches, but my favorite pieces are the fashion/figurative artwork. My sister liked one of the prints by Leigh Viner so much that she asked for a set of three of her prints to put over her bed for Christmas.
I’m kind of picky when it comes to figurative artwork. I don’t really like to see open eyes illustrated. I think there’s something about the eyes closed or the back turned that makes the featured woman a bit of a mystery and lets you fill in the blanks about who she is and what she’s thinking and feeling. I also find it makes it a little easier to see yourself in the artwork, which is nice when you are bringing feminine artwork into one of the most person and feminine places in your home (well, at least if you are still living sans boy like I am).
Here are some of my favorite prints by my go-to artists for fashion illustrations. Most of these artists sell their items via Etsy. If you don’t see a size you like, it’s always worth it to message the artist directly – most of the time they will print anything in a custom size for you. Enjoy!

A Tale of Four Coffee Tables

This is a tale of how I ended up owning four coffee tables at one time…which is coincidentally also a tale of three very tolerant roommates. Those of you who have known me for a while may recall when I refinished my first coffee table for our living room. I did a pretty good job if I do say so myself. Evolving Style: Traditional Rug Revival

One thing I love about design is that my taste is always evolving, and I have an opportunity to enjoy things that I’ve overlooked in the past. My taste has become more eclectic as I become more immersed in the design world and appreciate the way trends have come and gone over time. For example, I used to think that the only types of rugs I ever wanted in my house were simple patterns, like a trellis pattern or the Moroccan patterns that have been in lately. Last Minute Gift Idea: Framed Holiday Prints

Picture frames are always a nice gift, but they seem a little lame without a photo in them. For Christmas, treat your party host or friend to a picture frame, complete with some affordable holiday artwork that they can easily switch out when the season is over. Given that Christmas is 5 days away, you’ll want something you can pick up and put together quickly. Target’s Threshold line has some really great frames right now, and Rifle Paper Co.’s holiday post cards fit perfectly into a 4″ x 6″ frame. Marble Coffee Table Obsession

I’m not sure what’s gotten into me lately, but I am obsessed with finding a marble coffee table for my living room. I love the crisp, white surface, and the way it reflects light. I also like to mix textures and materials in a space, and something about natural stone gives the room a bit more interest. Favorite Pinners

Now that I’m in design school, I frequent Pinterest these days more than ever. Gathering inspiration, be it from interiors, outfits, art, or photographs, is critical to my success in my current classes and the program itself. Pinterest helps me organize that inspiration very easily (I’ve been on Houzz a lot too). If you follow me, you may have noticed that I am pinning things for “ID Project [whatever]”, which means that I’m gathering images to use as inspiration or materials to use in my intro to interior design and color theory classes. Mood Board: Gray + Gold + Aqua Bathroom

In one of my classes, we are spending the entire semester designing a small home. The first project was a bathroom. While I had to present the design with a physical design board that contained included floor plans and elevation drawings, I made a mood board so that you guys could get the gist of the design. When I designed it, I wanted the room to have timeless, elegant bones without looking too generic. Sale Alert: Anthropologie Decorating Sale

As I’ve mentioned in a past post or two, I am definitely one to swoon over anthropologie’s home decor selection. Today I got an email about new items added to the their home decoration sale. While most of their beautiful textiles are out of my price range, there are some very affordable hardware options.
